C'est cette diversité qui fait courir les gens aux bals du Tire-Laine, avec en prime un peu de rentre-dedans et une bonne dose d'humour à faire décoincer les enracinés du bord de piste.
La Compagnie du Tire-Laine est un collectif d'artistes lillois. Créée en 1992, par Arnaud Van Lancker et Armel Richard, la compagnie s'installe à ses débuts dans le quartir populaire lillois de Wazemmes, son répertoire se forme autour de la chanson française et de la musique tzigane. Le collectif de musiciens et de comédiens, se fait connaître grâce à ses nombreuses créations inspirées des musiques et contes du monde, notamment ses bals pour lesquels il est désormais célèbre. En 2007, le Tire-Laine déménage à Moulins et devient un lieu incontournable du quartier. En plus d'y héberger sa structure administrative comprenant sept salariés, l'association y développe ses actions culturelles tant en ses murs que sur les territoires qu'elle côtoie, comme les ateliers théâtre et l'école de l'oralité. En 2020, Arnaud Van Lancker délègue la direction artistique à Yann Deneque, arrivé dans la Compagnie en 2001. Aujourd'hui, le projet artistique du Tire-Laine, continue de se déployer au travers des cultures populaires du monde.
